Spencer Platt的作品拍摄于真实场景——2006年8月15日，黎巴嫩年轻人回到被以色列轰炸后的贝鲁特时露出的惶恐表情。Spencer Platt凭此作击败了来自124个国家的4460名参赛者。World Press Photo评审主席Michele McNally评价道，“这幅作品饱含现实生活的复杂、矛盾以及混乱，让你在长久凝视后深省。”

今年一共有58位摄影师在10个评比项目中获得荣誉，而Spencer Platt则将在2007年4月22日于阿姆斯特丹的Oude Kerk接受总计10000欧元奖金，随后进行为期三天的摄影讨论会。摄影展则将从4月24日持续至6月17日，分为年度获奖作品、Spencer Platt个人作品展以及一场以非洲气候变化为主题的摄影作品展。后者在此次展出后还将巡展全球85个国家以及地区。

本年度World Press Photo获奖摄影师如下：

1.World Press Photo 2006——Spencer Platt，美国，来自Getty Images，获奖作品《Young Lebanese drive through devastated neighborhood of South Beirut》，拍摄日期8月15日

2.Spot News Single一等奖——Akintunde Akinleye，尼日利亚，来自路透社，《rinses soot from his face after gas pipeline explosion》，拍摄日期12月26日

3.Arts and Entertainment Stories一等奖——Denis Darzacq，法国，来自Agence Vu，获奖作品《Street dancers》，地点：巴黎

4.Nature Stories一等奖——Paul Nicklen，加拿大，来自美国国家地理杂志，获奖作品《Leopard seal hunting》，拍摄地点：南极洲
