Tim Hetherington的获奖照片拍摄于2007年9月16日，照片展示了一名美军士兵在名为“Restrepo”的掩体中休息的场景，这个掩体的以该士兵所在排牺牲的一名战友命名。

美国503步兵团第2空降营被部署于阿富汗东部的Korengal山谷地区阵地，该地区以对抗激烈以及美军直升机被频繁击落而声名狼藉，而Hetherington获奖照片的拍摄项目也同时获得了General News Stories分类的二等奖。

“这张照片展示了一个男人与一个国家的精疲力竭。”评委Gary Knight评论道，“这张照片有一种人性的品质。”

今年一共有来自125个国家的5019位摄影师提交80536张参赛作品，其中80%参赛作品为在线提交。

World Press Photo 2007年度照片获奖者Tim Hethterington将在4月27日于阿姆斯特丹举行的颁奖仪式上获得10000欧元奖励以及一台Canon EOS-1Ds MarkIII。
